Germany TMT Steel Bar Market in shall reach a value of $X Million in 2033, growing with a CAGR of X% during the forecast period of 2023 to 2033.
Thermo-Mechanically Treated steel bars are a form of high-strength reinforcement steel commonly used in the building sector. They have various advantages over conventional steel bars, making them a preferred alternative for concrete structures such as buildings, bridges, and highways.
The strong demand for new housing and commercial areas, driven by population growth and economic activity, results in increased consumption of TMT bars. Germanys aging infrastructure necessitates maintenance and improvements, increasing the demand for strong and long-lasting building materials such as TMT bars are expected to drive the market growth.
Initiatives launched by German government for renewable energy solutions.
GE Renewable Energy announced that it has been chosen by German business WPD to supply 16 onshore wind turbines for three wind farms to be developed in Landkreis Uelzen, Niedersachsen, 100 kilometers south-east of Hamburg. The three projects, which have a total installed capacity of 88 MW, will use GEs 5.5 MW turbines with 158m rotor diameter. The agreement also includes a 15-year full-service contract with the option to extend for an additional 5 years. Germanys ambitious renewable energy ambitions require the building of several wind farms and solar power facilities. These projects make use of TMT steel bars for towers, foundations, and structural parts thereby driving the demand for TMT steel bars.
The railway sector also poses a great deal of product demand.
The German Federal Government and Deutsche Bahn have unveiled the most extensive and comprehensive infrastructure program for the rail network and stations since the 1994 railway reform. This was accomplished during the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transports Rail Summit in Frankfurt held on September 2023. This 45 billion Euro project intends to improve train punctuality and establish the conditions for meeting transport policy objectives for passenger and freight traffic. Thus, this project will lead to increase in demand for TMT steel bars that commonly employed in railway infrastructure projects and stations for their great strength, ductility, and weldability that make them suitable for a wide range of railway applications such as tracks, bridges and tunnels, stations etc.
Construction of mega projects in Germany increases the demand for TMT steel bars.
The Fehmarn Belt fixed link is an ongoing construction project that will connect the Danish island of Lolland to the German island of Fehmarn by an immersed tunnel. This tunnel, which spans the 18-kilometer-wide Fehmarn Belt in the Baltic Sea, will provide a direct link between northern Germany, Lolland, and the Danish island of Zealand before connecting to Copenhagen. Originally predicted to cost €5.5 billion, the projects price tag had risen to €7.4 billion by the time Denmark and Germany signed the pact to begin construction. Denmark will fund the tunnel through toll collection, and Germany will contribute €800 million to connect it to its road network. Tunnel linings are made up of TMT bars, which have a high tensile strength and ductility. They serve as internal support, withstanding the enormous strain generated by the surrounding rock and dirt thereby driving the demand for TMT steel bars.
Recent Strategic Developments
• The Salzgitter Group has chosen the technology company ANDRITZ to deliver one of Europes largest green hydrogen reactors for the SALCOS program, which aims to achieve nearly CO2-free (green) steel production.
ANDRITZ will build a 100 MW electrolysis plant at the Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH site on an EPC basis, using HydrogenPros pressurized alkaline electrolyzer technology. Beginning in 2026, the plant will generate around 9,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, which will be utilized to manufacture green steel. This marks the beginning of industrial hydrogen usage under the SALCOS initiative.
• Essen based energy firm STEAG, Duisburg-based steel company thyssenkrupp Steel, and Dortmund-based thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers, which specialize in electrolysis technology, are conducting a collaborative feasibility study. The study focuses on the construction of a water electrolysis plant at the STEAG site in Duisburg-Walsum by thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers, the structuring of energy supply and operation of the electrolysis plant by STEAG, and the supply of green hydrogen and oxygen to thyssenkrupp steel mill in the neighboring Duisburg district of Bruckhausen.
