• The Salzgitter Group has chosen the technology company ANDRITZ to deliver one of Europes largest green hydrogen reactors for the SALCOS program, which aims to achieve nearly CO2-free (green) steel production.
ANDRITZ will build a 100 MW electrolysis plant at the Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH site on an EPC basis, using HydrogenPros pressurized alkaline electrolyzer technology. Beginning in 2026, the plant will generate around 9,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, which will be utilized to manufacture green steel. This marks the beginning of industrial hydrogen usage under the SALCOS initiative.
• Essen based energy firm STEAG, Duisburg-based steel company thyssenkrupp Steel, and Dortmund-based thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers, which specialize in electrolysis technology, are conducting a collaborative feasibility study. The study focuses on the construction of a water electrolysis plant at the STEAG site in Duisburg-Walsum by thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers, the structuring of energy supply and operation of the electrolysis plant by STEAG, and the supply of green hydrogen and oxygen to thyssenkrupp steel mill in the neighboring Duisburg district of Bruckhausen.
